Trump-Putin meeting, the secret service revealed the exact location; how prices

US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will meet on August 15 to discuss a possible peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine. The meeting is being seen as a major step in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Trump revealed a few days ago that he would meet with Putin in the US state of Alaska, but did not specifically reveal the exact location of the meeting.

But a reservation request from the U.S. Secret Service could reveal exactly that.

The New York Times claims to have obtained information about the possible location. Larry Disbrow, a real estate agent in Anchorage, Alaska, and also an honorary consul in Germany, reportedly recently received a shocking request. "The U.S. Secret Service contacted me this morning and asked if I could make one of my properties available," he told the New York Times.

Although only the US state of Alaska, not the city of Anchorage, was announced by Trump, hotel prices in Alaska’s largest city have risen sharply, as reported by Azerbaijani platform Caliber. According to the report, hotel room rates have reportedly doubled within 24 hours of the summit announcement. While hoteliers are likely to benefit from the high demand for accommodation for delegations, security forces and media, Forbes warns of potential constraints in Alaska’s already busy summer.

This is within the framework of security measures, while Anchorage will be "armored" under maximum security conditions, perhaps by limiting the movements of locals to the maximum.

Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance, however, is still awaiting official confirmation. She has yet to receive any indication that the state's largest city will host the summit. However, "hosting heads of state is nothing unusual for us here in Alaska," she said.

Anchorage was already the site of high-level diplomatic talks in 2021, when representatives of the US administration of Joe Biden met with Chinese officials at a hotel. The city was chosen because it is roughly the geographical midpoint between the respective capitals of Washington and Beijing.

Why are Putin and Trump meeting?

Russia has been waging war on Ukraine for three and a half years. A ceasefire or even a peace deal has been out of the question for some time. On Friday, U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin will meet in Alaska to discuss a possible peace deal. Trump described the meeting as an effort to move closer to an end to hostilities. In this context, he raised the possibility of a territorial swap between Ukraine and Russia, but without providing specific details.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not be present at the meeting in Alaska. At Putin's request, it will initially be a bilateral meeting. The US president has predicted a trilateral meeting with Putin and Zelensky in the future. "The next meeting will be with Zelensky and Putin, or Zelensky, Putin and me. I will be there if they need me," Trump told reporters on Monday (August 11).

What can we expect before the Putin-Trump meeting?

Zelensky had spoken out against the territorial concessions and in favor of ending the war in Ukraine. Due to concerns that Trump and Putin could make decisions over Ukraine and its Western allies that would force Ukraine to make concessions, a virtual meeting with Trump and Zelensky will take place on Wednesday. As announced on Monday by the German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius, roundtables with different compositions are planned with the heads of state and government of Germany, France, Great Britain, Finland, Italy, Poland and Ukraine. Also expected to participate are EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Council President António Costa, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Trump's Vice President JD Vance

Climate before the Summit announcement

In July, US President Trump gave Russia a 50-day deadline. If there was no ceasefire in the Ukraine war by then, Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on US imports of Russian products and Russia's trading partners. In late July, Trump shortened the deadline to ten days: Friday, August 8.

There were talks between the Kremlin and the White House. The ultimatum expired. However, instead of sanctions, there was an announcement that there would be a meeting with Putin on American soil. Trump had announced this on his social media platform, Truth Social. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 15. / Pamphlet /
