United States President Donald Trump said that the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz ends on Tuesday and will not be extended.
Trump has previously set several deadlines during the conflict, which have since been pushed back. This time, he emphasized that this is a final deadline.
Commenting on Iran's response to a US proposal to end the war, the president described it as an important but insufficient step.
" They put forward a proposal. It's an important step, but it's not enough ," Trump said. He added that the war could end quickly if Iran takes the required actions, stressing that the negotiations are being conducted, according to him, in good faith.
The US president also stated that there are "many options" available as the conflict continues. He stressed that the United States could withdraw at any time, but added that he intends to bring the situation to a conclusion.
" We could leave now and it would take them years to rebuild what they had. But I want to finish this ," Trump said.
He reiterated the position that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons, while Tehran continues to deny such a goal.
Trump's statements come at a critical moment for the conflict, while it remains unclear whether this deadline will lead to an agreement or further escalation.
