US President Donald Trump has announced the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as ISIS's "number two" globally. The operation was carried out in Africa in cooperation between US and Nigerian forces.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that: "With his departure, ISIS's global operation is greatly reduced," while describing al-Minook as "the most active terrorist in the world."
The 44-year-old Nigerian was considered a key figure in the ISIS branch in the Lake Chad region. According to the Counter Extremism Project, he had held a commanding role within the terrorist organization since 2018 and was known for his extremist views.
The latest operation follows US strikes on Islamist bases in northwestern Nigeria over Christmas last year. The developments followed statements by Trump, who had accused Nigeria of failing to protect Christian communities, allegations that have been denied by Nigerian authorities.
