Ukraine attacks the Russian region with barrage of drones!

Russian authorities claim to have shot down 125 Ukrainian drones on Sunday, reflecting Kiev's stepped-up efforts to turn the more than two-and-a-half-year-old war onto Russian territory. Meanwhile, Ukraine reported many wounded during Russian attacks in ten regions on Sunday.

The governor of Russia's southwestern Belgorod region said a man had been killed in the town of Shebekino, near the border with Ukraine.

Russia's Defense Ministry hinted that Ukraine is focusing attacks inside the Russian border more and more in its Volgograd region, east of the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces launched a surprise incursion in July.

They are believed to have captured about 1,300 square kilometers of Russian land in Kursk.

One of the attacks in Volgograd was reported near a large ammunition depot in Kotluban, which has been targeted in the past, but it is not clear if any damage was sustained.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's military said its air defenses shot down 15 of 22 Russian attack drones over at least four regions of the country overnight and said five more drones were driven back by other "countermeasures".

The head of Ukraine's military administration in the southern Zaporizhia region, Ivan Fedorov, said high-rise buildings and private homes were hit overnight and that "there may be people under the rubble."

Later, he said a woman was rescued from the wreckage and hospitalized.

The State Emergency Service later said that 11 people were injured in the attacks.

In Zaporizhzhia, there have been new damages and injuries almost every day, as a result of Russian airstrikes.

Zaporizhzhia is home to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which has been under Russian occupation since the start of Russia's full occupation of Ukraine in 2022.

On September 28, Ukrainian officials said Supreme Court judge Leonid Loboyko was killed in a Russian attack on his vehicle while delivering humanitarian aid to residents of a village in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

Ukraine's General Staff said about a quarter of the 165 fighting over the past 24 hours took place in the region around Pokrovsk, the strategic frontline city in eastern Donetsk region where Russia is said to have advanced in recent months.

Radio Free Europe cannot independently confirm the reports of either side on the developments on the battlefield, or the casualties in many areas of the fiercest fighting./ REL
