President Donald Trump threatened today to "destroy" the Islamic Republic's nuclear power plants if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
Regarding this, the country's Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, recently reacted, stating that the Strait of Hormuz is not blocked, but the uncertainty brought about by the war launched by the US has increased the fear of ships passing through it.
Regarding the threat, Araghchi said it would be better if the US, in its efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, used respect instead of threats.
"The Strait of Hormuz is not closed. Ships are hesitant because insurers fear that the chosen war you started, not Iran, no insurer, and no Iranian, will be affected by more threats. Try respect, freedom of navigation cannot exist without freedom of trade. Respect both, or expect neither ," Araghchi wrote in "X"
Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the fighting and has been accused of targeting commercial shipping. The waterway is vital because significant amounts of the world's oil passes through it every day.
