In a joint operation by American and Iraqi forces, 15 members of the extremist group, Islamic State (IS), have been killed in western Iraq. US Central Command said seven US troops were injured during the operation.
The operation targeted IS leaders and resulted "in the death of 15 IS operatives" and "no indication of civilian deaths," US Central Command said.
In the announcement published in X, he said that IS members were "armed with a variety of weapons, grenades and other explosive devices" and that Iraqi forces are continuing to control the raided locations.
The US military has no further details on the location where the operation was carried out.
The US military said all seven US soldiers have been evacuated for medical treatment. All of them are in stable condition, a defense official said.
"IS continues to pose a threat to the region, to our allies, but also to our homeland. US Central Command, along with our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists," US Central Command said.
This operation took place after Baghdad and Washington have held talks for months about the presence of coalition forces against the jihadists in Iraq.
Despite Iraq's intention to have a full withdrawal of coalition troops, no date has yet been made public.
The US has close to 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Sisi as part of the international coalition in the fight against IS. / REL
