Vladimir Putin has started again with "cutting off heads". Russia's former deputy defense minister was arrested today in the latest episode of what appears to be a crackdown on abuses in the country's military elite, or officials linked to former defense minister Sergei Shoigu.
Former Deputy Minister Pavel Popov faces up to 10 years in prison if the fraud charges are proven, Russian media reported, adding that his initial remand is set for October 29.
The case against Popov relates to business activities at a disputed military plant near Moksa that has previously been called a "Russian military toy park" by the media, referring to abuses.
The 'Patriot Park' was actually a project started by the former defense minister Sergei Shoigu, with the aim of inspiring or indoctrinating young people with Soviet and Russian weapons and military equipment.
It had a training ground, air base, military museums and a church for the armed forces, decorated with mosaics of Russian and Soviet soldiers. But recently the plant was brought to the attention of the media for financial abuses by officials.
