President Donald Trump has called for the killer of his right-hand man Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, to be sentenced to death.
Trump, who has long been a supporter of the death penalty, made this statement after the arrest of Tyler Robinson.
Trump emphasized that he has lifted a moratorium on federal executions that was put in place during his first administration and has ordered the execution of prisoners convicted of serious crimes. This was one of his first acts at the start of his second term, in January.
The death penalty is still legal in most US states, and Trump has overseen a number of executions in the final months of his first term, making him the country's most prolific executioner in more than a century. The last execution came just five days before Trump left office in January 2021.
