US President Donald Trump has reacted to the situation in the Middle East, stating that China has agreed not to send weapons to Iran, while maintaining a positive tone about relations with Beijing in a post on Truth Social.

"China is very happy that I am opening the Strait of Hormuz forever. I am doing it for them, too - and for the world. This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran. President Xi will give me a big hug when I go there in a few weeks. We are working together very smartly and very well! Isn't that better than war???? BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at war, if we have to - much better than anyone else!!! President DJT ," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

He said that China is "very happy" with the permanent opening of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that this action is being taken for both China and the world.

He also said the United States and China are working together “smartly” and “very well.” Referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said he expects a warm welcome during a future visit, while stressing that the US is “very good at war” if necessary.

The statements come at a time of heightened tensions over Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global oil transport.

Mediators are close to extending a ceasefire between the United States and Iran beyond an April 22 deadline to create more time for negotiations. The talks focus on key issues including Iran's nuclear program, the status of the Strait of Hormuz and compensation for war damages.

The fragile ceasefire has been put under pressure by a US blockade of Iranian ports and new threats from Tehran, raising concerns of escalation.

The conflict, now in its seventh week, has disrupted global shipping and energy markets, with traffic in the Strait of Hormuz severely reduced. The war has claimed thousands of lives in Iran, Lebanon and Israel, and has affected Gulf states and US forces.

Meanwhile, clashes have continued in Lebanon, where Israeli attacks have been reported in the south, despite direct talks between Israeli and Lebanese officials.
