Elections in areas annexed by Russia, Ukrainian politician: Citizens are being

Today, Russia has started early voting in the territories of Ukraine that it has put under its control, as part of the elections that will be held in several regions of Russia on September 10.

Moscow has brought under its control just under 20% of Ukrainian territory: Crimea, which it annexed in 2014, as well as most of Luhansk Oblast and parts of Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.

Elections in these areas, which Ukraine has condemned, will be held on September 10, but the occupation authorities are holding "early voting" from today in the regions of Donetsk and Zaporizhia and from September 2 in those of Kherson and Luhansk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen governors from veteran pro-Russian politicians.

"The officials installed by Russia will go from house to house, as they used to do, talking to people. Two soldiers stand nearby, with machine guns, and tell the people that they must vote. It is clear that there is no trust from the people in this process, which should be called a fake election", said the Ukrainian mayor-in-exile of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko.
