Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has cut off contact and there is uncertainty about his fate, Israeli media outlet Walla reported, citing Israeli officials , this afternoon.
According to the same sources, Iranian officials promised to release a recording of Khamenei after the Israeli attacks that targeted his compound in Tehran. So far, there has been no official confirmation from Israeli, American or Iranian authorities about his condition.
A preliminary assessment by Israeli officials suggests that Khamenei may have been injured in the attack or may even have been killed. This is not an official confirmation.
The attacks were part of a joint Israeli-US operation against Iran. Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah and Karaj.
According to two sources familiar with Israeli military operations and a regional source, Iranian Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh, as well as the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohammed Pakpour, are suspected of being killed in the Israeli strikes. There is no independent confirmation of these reports.
Israeli and Iranian sources had previously stated that the airstrikes killed several senior IRGC commanders and political officials of the Iranian regime.
Iran's Security Council called on residents of Tehran and other major cities to stay in safe places until further notice.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the objective of the operation is to end the Ayatollah's regime. US President Donald Trump confirmed US involvement in the military operation and called on the IRGC to surrender its weapons.
