Where does Berisha have his American friends today, where does La Civita have them, where does he have his MEPs?
The leader of the Democratic Party was shouting and shouting, "now we have our American friends, Edi Rama, you are finished, it is our turn". This was of course before and during the electoral campaign. They had hoped that "Trump would surprise them with an SMS or phone call before May 11, and everything would be over".
But coming to power in a democratic system is done through voting, freedom of speech and thought, and not through tricks, scenarios, and unbridled imaginations. The United States of America is the world's economic and military superpower, with the most advanced democracy. But not the "world's gendarme". This was once the opinion, and after 1992, we felt that we were wrong. But let's return to the opposition, to the Democratic Party.
After Berisha's return as party leader 2 years ago, she converted back to "conservatives", and declared herself "a loyal ally and friend of Donald Trump after November 4, 2024". What politics, what politicians, what ridiculous scenes this country, this people has experienced in 35 years. James Baker came, we kissed the tires of the car, then it was 1997, what did we not say in Parliament about the Americans, when the former SHIK chief Gazidede, declared them "the authors of Berisha's overthrow from power". Then events unfolded violently, then differently, not guessing anything of what political reality offered.
Berisha in 35 years has become friend and foe about 10 times with the Americans. And it is not known why, after November 4, he became "honey and milk" with the USA and Donald Trump. I say this because, taking advantage of the opportunity and the situation, Berisha went so far as to draw parallels between the events that had happened to Trump in the USA and him in Tirana. In every meeting, speech, and interview, Berisha declared that "I and Trump have the same political fate."
Based on what he declared, Berisha filled the whole world with the idea that "just as Trump won in the USA, I will win in Albania too". So strong was this "conviction" that he managed to get Trump's campaign manager, LaCivita, to join the campaign on January 11. The first appearance was so pompous that many Albanians thought that "Edi Rama is now losing the elections".
But they were wrong. Edi Rama's tactics and strategy for victory were determined 1 year before the campaign, and everything was clear, in the certainty of victory on May 11. Edi Rama did not campaign with either MEPs or Americans, but he campaigned in a more model way with Albanians, with socialists and progressives. And the result is known. It could not have happened otherwise.
But where does Berisha have his American friends today, where does he have La Civita, where does he have his MEPs? In Albania it is very difficult, even impossible, to gain power by using names and figures with no connection to the fate and interests of Albanians.
I think that, even if Trump came to Tirana, and went out every day with Saliu in the campaign, the defeat of the DP would be inevitable. Just as the victory of the PS and Edi Rama would be 100 percent certain. Let this serve as a formative lesson for Berisha, and all those who still believe that "without Saliu, we are lost."
