A large number of well-known figures with integrity in the Democratic Party have withdrawn from the primaries, even before they have begun, due to the procedure established by Sali Berisha, who will have the final say even after the "voting" on who will be on the list of deputies. The withdrawal will continue even after the voting is over, because Berisha will dictate whether they will be on the closed or open lists.
So, Berisha will put about 300 names in the race to be voted on, then he will decide for himself who will be on the closed lists.
The problem is that, according to all serious polls, the DP is expected to receive between 25 and 33 percent. This is the segment where its potential percentage moves, which coincides with 30 percent of the closed lists.
So, those who "agree" to enter the primaries, enter with the hope that when the primaries are over, Berisha will put them on the closed lists. But the closed list is almost closed now.
Taking into account allies and political leaders, the closed lists start closed even in Tirana, where the largest number of MPs is. There is no more room in the other districts.
The word comes: Tritan Shehu had made a bitter joke two days ago. After securing himself on the closed list of the Gjirokastra District, a district that has only one MP on the closed list, he invites others to participate in the primaries, while it is known that the result is 3 to 1 for the SP.
So, anyone other than those on the list is not an MP. Of course, no one intends to run an internal race just to show Tirana that they have enough votes, but cannot become an MP.
This phenomenon is all over Albania.
Practically, the DP is expected to receive about 30 percent of the votes, which is its closed list in all of Albania. The open lists are "out there on the high seas", but none of them can be anchored in the Assembly.
So all those who are withdrawing have simply done the math and it seems they have not accepted even the slightest mockery from Berisha.
Others who put their names on the primary list may need them for their CVs in the future, but not to become MPs.
The withdrawal of PD figures with integrity from the primaries is a warning of the May 11 obituary, as it shows that the first ones who do not believe in the PD's victory are the PD's leaders.
