The crackdown on a large drug trafficking group, where just one of the members generated income of up to 100 million euros, is a very significant message about the strength of SPAK's action.
For several months, the crackdown on organized crime and high-level corruption in Albania has taken on an intensity unusual for our standards. SPAK, the most debated and most attacked institution by politics and big economic interests, is giving clear signals that the era of impunity is fading, despite the resistance it encounters.
The seizure of millions of euros in cash, of properties of dubious origin and the uncovering of links between drug trafficking and construction or public tenders are exposing a large part of the wealth built on crime. According to official data, in the first 6 months of 2025 alone, SPAK has seized over 50 million euros in assets and issued dozens of arrest warrants against individuals linked to crime and corruption.
Placing structured criminal groups, with a name, influence, and reputation in the cities and areas they control, on the investigation table has significantly increased the striking force of the law and created panic due to the unpredictability of investigations and arrests.
In addition to the well-known names of the dark world, from Bajrat in Shkodër, to Pojat in Durrës, or Çopjat in Elbasan, individuals who have not been exposed as characters at all, but who have accumulated great wealth from illegal activities, are also being targeted. The crackdown on a large drug trafficking group, where only one of the members generated income of up to 100 million euros, is a very significant message for the strength of SPAK's action. The law is no joke, prison too.
Of course, partner services are also playing a major role, but ultimately the criminal prosecution is taking place in Albania. Therefore, the merit for this goes to the investigative body in pursuing cases that are complicated, but also numerous in terms of topics for investigation and trial.
This means that now these operations are no longer just media actions, but proof that the system has begun to hit where it hurts the most: on illegal wealth. But what is more important now is that those who were protected until yesterday only from rivals, today will also have to reckon with prosecution by law enforcement agencies and more specifically by the prosecution and the special court.
SPAK is not perfect. There is still a way to go. But one thing is clear: it has begun to "clean" an Albania that has been washed with dirty money for decades. And it is doing it better than any other washing machine we have tried to date.
