The driver of the vehicle who tragically lost his life this morning in the serious accident in Këlcyre has been identified.
It is known that the driver of the vehicle was citizen Edison Bregaj.
Bregaj was transporting 7 contraband in a rented vehicle, but after being spotted by a police patrol, he tried to leave quickly, ending up in the Vjosë river.
7 illegal immigrants also lost their lives, bringing the total to 8 victims.
The vehicle was traveling at a speed of 200 km/h, as confirmed by the fact that before the fatal moment the 'Benz' did not collide with the metal curb of the road, but ended up on the river bed.
"Around 04:00, on the road axis Këlcyrë-Përmet, near the village of Kuqar, it is suspected that as a result of the loss of control over the driving of the vehicle by the driver, the Benz type vehicle left the road and fell on the side of the Vjosë river .
As a result of leaving the road, 8 citizens lost their lives. (7 citizens are suspected to be from third countries and the driver of the vehicle from Shkodra).
At the scene is the investigative group which, under the direction of the Prosecutor, is working to clarify the circumstances and the cause of the accident.
Also at the scene are the Local Director of Police, the Director of the Border Department, the Director of the Traffic Police and the Director of Public Order.
There are also two groups of the National Security Force at the scene.
