Shkodra police have arrested 51-year-old Prek Gjoni, suspected of raping journalist Ervin Dushi, an incident that occurred on the evening of May 18 in the "Skënderbeg" neighborhood.
According to the official announcement, Crime Investigation specialists at the Shkodra Police Station arrested the 51-year-old for the criminal offense of "Assault in the Line of Duty".
" This citizen is suspected of having punched citizen ED, 46 years old, a journalist, on 18.05.2026, at around 20:00, in the 'Skënderbeg' neighborhood, due to his duty ," the police statement said.
According to the complaint made by the journalist himself, the perpetrator of the violence is the owner of the "Xhedis" supermarket chain, along with other people who were with him at the time of the incident.
Journalist Ervin Dushi has stated that the violence against him is related to his public activity and a complaint made earlier in support of a market employee, who had had a disagreement with the company owner.
After the incident, Dushi went to the Shkodra Police, where he filed a criminal report for the violence inflicted on him.
" I will continue to pursue the matter through the institutions ," the journalist is reported to have stated after the complaint.
The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Shkodra for further action, while investigations continue to fully clarify the circumstances of the conflict and the involvement of other persons in the event.
