The young men involved are both of Albanian origin. The victim is 30 years old, while the killer is 35 years old.
An Albanian was executed by gunfire on Friday evening in Arezzo, Italy.
According to Italian media, the victim has been identified as Gjergj Përgegaj, 30, who lost his life after several gunshots near the Bivio di Olmo area, south of the city.
He was from Lezha and lived in Frassineto.
According to preliminary information, the crime occurred shortly before midnight, near a bar and a restaurant, after a conflict that allegedly started inside the bar.
During the confrontation, another Albanian citizen, around 35 years old, pulled out an undeclared pistol and shot several times at the victim.
The young man was seriously injured, while the perpetrator immediately left the scene in a vehicle, attempting to escape the police.
Immediately after the shooting, emergency services and law enforcement were notified. Ambulances, police, and carabinieri arrived at the scene, but despite the efforts of doctors, the 30-year-old could not survive, having received fatal wounds to the neck.
Italian authorities launched a manhunt for the perpetrator, who was arrested in the early hours of the morning at his apartment in the surrounding area.
The motives for the crime remain unclear, while investigations are ongoing.
Initial investigations suggest that this was a crime of passion. The murdered man, at the end of his work shift, had stopped to talk to his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot near the Olmos intersection. Her current partner arrived at that moment and, upon seeing them together, lost his temper, pulled out a gun and opened fire on his rival.
At least three shots were reportedly fired, one of which was fatal in the throat. He then fled, but was later caught by law enforcement.
