For two years, SPAK has been investigating the file of January 21, 2011, following a decision by Strasbourg and the Supreme Court, while a few weeks ago, an audio recording was filed with the Special Prosecution Office, through which it is alleged that the orders for killings were recorded during the protest called by the opposition at the time.
But it seems that Mark Nika, the uncle of Aleks Nika, one of the 4 protesters who was killed on the boulevard, has been disappointed by SPAK, and has turned to the SP Parliamentary Group to ask for help.
Mark Nika previously appeared before SPAK where he was questioned, but today he states that there is a lack of will in the Special Prosecution Office to advance with the investigations.
According to Report TV, Mark Nika has asked Taulant Balla, head of the SP Group, for the help of the Assembly to influence SPAK to accelerate the investigations.
Nika even expects the Assembly to adopt a resolution calling on SPAK to investigate the serious state crime. According to him, the requests of the Strasbourg Court and the Supreme Court, which ordered the investigation of the role of the guard's chain of command, including former Prime Minister Berisha, in these murders, are not being implemented.
The Assembly has the obligation to intervene, Mark Nika is reported to have said, also due to the fact that it is the only institution that oversees SPAK in the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
Three weeks ago, Mark Nika also had a meeting with SPAK Chief Prosecutor Klodian Braho, who told him in his office that the case is dragging on and that even today, after 15 years, not all the people who have knowledge have been summoned for questioning.
SPAK has been investigating the 4 murders of protesters on the boulevard for almost 2 years, since July 15, 2024, when it registered the case after the Supreme Court ordered the launch of the investigation.
Since then, SPAK has questioned a number of former senior state officials who were in office at the time of the incident. Former President Bamir Topi, former Interior Minister Lulzim Basha, and former President Ilir Meta, who was questioned at his request, have appeared before prosecutors. Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, after a failed attempt to delay his testimony, also appeared before SPAK on November 19 of last year. Since then, no new developments have been communicated by the Special Prosecution.
