A 33-year-old Albanian has returned to prison, after escaping 11 years ago.

The Albanian citizen had managed to escape from the Court of Larisa, on June 18, 2013, while he was sentenced to 17 years in prison, declaring him guilty of gang acts, physical damage and robbery, committed in Larisa from June to October 2012. .

After his escape, two European arrest warrants were issued by the Larisa Prosecutor's Office, as a result of which he was arrested in London on August 12, 2021, and two and a half years later, on February 22, 2024, he was handed over to the Greek authorities.

Yesterday, in the framework of a joint decision of the Single-Member Court of Criminal Appeal, he was returned to Larissa Prisons, to serve the sentence for the crimes for which he was convicted. He is expected to serve 15 years in prison, that is until February 22, 2039.

According to the investigations of the Security Directorate of Larisa, the 33-year-old man together with five other young men (including four compatriots and a minor from Larisa) and an unknown number of accomplices from June to October 2012 robbed and beat citizens, who were passing by their car from Martali street in the area of ​​Dogana.

According to the documents of the case, the perpetrators "approached the victims by surprise or by asking them for fire or cigarettes and then robbed them with violence, mainly taking the money they had with them and their mobile phones".

According to the denunciations, while one of the defendants asked the passing driver to give him a cigarette, the other suddenly opened the passenger door and then, the perpetrators violently robbed their victims.
