The identities of the two people injured by a grenade explosion in the village of Mamaj, in Tepelena, have been revealed. They are 34-year-old Lisjen Shehu and 28-year-old Xhuljano Sala, who are under the care of doctors after the serious incident.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in a hut where explosives were suspected to be stored. It is reported that a 28-year-old man was in a hut where grenades were stored, and one of them exploded in his hand. As a result, he suffered very serious injuries and is suspected to have lost both hands.
The young man was initially transported to the hospital and then urgently sent to Tirana for more specialized treatment. Meanwhile, another young man, 28-year-old Xhuljano Sala, was also injured in the explosion, suffering head and facial injuries. He is in serious condition at the Gjirokastra hospital and is expected to be transferred to the capital.
The incident has put the police and investigative structures in motion, who are working to clarify the causes and circumstances and to determine the origin of the explosives. It is suspected that the grenades were illegally located in the hut where the young people were at the time of the explosion.
"Around 1:40 p.m., citizens Xh. S., about 28 years old, resident of the village of Mamaj, and L. Sh., about 36 years old, resident of Memaliaj (friends of each other), were taken to the hospital, who are suspected of having been accidentally injured by the explosion of an unspecified explosive substance, in an area adjacent to the apartment of citizen P. S, (father of citizen Xh. S.), in the village of Mamaj," the police announced.
