Kreshnik Farruku, also known as Kreshnik Budlla, had been wanted since 2018 by Italian authorities, who considered him the leader of an organization that carried out international drug trafficking.
The High Court has released Kreshnik Farruku, who was wanted by the Italian authorities, from prison. Farruku was arrested in January 2025 with the aim of extradition to Italy. He was arrested in Manzë, Durrës, in cooperation with the Florence prosecutor's office. Farruku is now only under house arrest, imposed by the Durrës Court.
The Durrës Court had considered the request for temporary arrest against Kreshnik Farruku, after the Brescia Court in Italy, with decision No. No. 12042/2020 RGNR-5352/2021 RI GIP, dated 29.08.2024, had ordered him to be detained in prison as a suspect for the offenses of "Criminal Organization" and "Drug Trafficking" provided for by Italian criminal legislation.
The 51-year-old is charged with 'criminal organization' and 'drug trafficking'.
Kreshnik Farruku, also known as Kreshnik Budlla, had been wanted since 2018 by Italian authorities, who considered him the leader of an organization that carried out international drug trafficking. Meanwhile, he was also wanted by Spanish authorities for robbery.
Farruk was arrested years ago in a hotel located on "Joan Maragall Chamartin" street, near La Castellana, in Spain.
Local media reported at the time that when approached by a police agent, Farruku attempted to prove his identity with Spanish and Albanian documents in the name of other people. Police later discovered that he had used up to 10 different identities to avoid detection.
He is suspected of being part of the 'Farruku' clan, an Albanian criminal organization that was linked to theft, cocaine trafficking and other crimes related to drug trafficking.
In December last year, the GJKKO announced that it confiscated 27 assets belonging to two individuals, specifically Kreshnik Budlla and Erneo Farruku, which were suspected of being derived from illegal drug trafficking activity.
Among the confiscated assets are several properties in Tirana and Durrës, apartments in luxury buildings, vehicles of the "Mercedes Benz" and "Smart" brands, as well as the businesses "Eco Energy System" and "Rrotull-Beton".
Farruk's name also recently appeared in Sky ECC communications in the file of former socialist MP Jurgis Çyrbja. According to the transcribed conversations, the former MP gave him secret information to control the environment around his apartment, as he had information that he could be under surveillance by SHISH employees.
Legal battle
On April 2, 2025, the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC) decided to revoke the "prison arrest" security measure against Farruku. This came after it was discovered that communications on the SKY ECC application, which had been used as evidence against him, actually belonged to his brother, Roland Farruku.
However, despite this decision, Farruku was not released from prison. This is because the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction had changed the security measure from "house arrest" to "prison arrest" for extradition purposes to Italy, where he faces charges of drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization.
On 20.05.2025, Farruku left the detention facilities, while he will remain under the security measure of 'house arrest' until the end of the extradition procedure.
In the session of January 7, 2025, the Durrës court had considered the request for temporary arrest against Kreshnik Farruku and Erneo Farruku, his brother, after the Court of Brescia, Italy, with decision No. 12042/2020 RGNR-5352/2021 RI GIP, dated 29.08.2024, had imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" on him, as suspects for the offenses "Criminal organization" and "Trafficking in narcotics", provided for by Italian criminal legislation.
