According to the police, the presence of metal was signaled with a red light on the detector screen, but security officer Banush Koxhaj took no action.
The police have revealed the full dynamics regarding the serious incident that occurred the day before at the Court of Appeal in Tirana, where judge Astrit Kalaja was shot dead.
According to the police, the presence of metals was signaled with a red light on the detector screen, but security officer Banush Koxhaj took no action. Also, the register of all persons entering and leaving the Court of Appeals was not verified.
The two persons Elvis Shkambi and Gjon Shkambi remained in the court lobby until around 15:29, and then entered the courtroom (room no. 3). At 15:35, the parties stood up and, immediately after Judge Astrit Kalaja announced the verdict, Elvis Shkambi, who was in the courtroom, took out a pistol from his belt and shot several times at the judge, who, as a result of the injuries he received and after first aid, died during transport to the hospital.
At the same time, after this action, Elvis Shkambi points his pistol and shoots once at the opposing party, injuring both father and son.
"At 1:42 p.m., citizens E. Sh. and G. Sh. entered the premises of the Court's public waiting room and passed through the scanner (detector) device, one after the other. The presence of metals was signaled on the detector screen by turning on red lights, but citizen BK, on duty as a security officer at the Tirana Court of Appeal, remained seated in a chair and did not perform any action to physically check these citizens or register them in the protocol book, where all persons entering and leaving the Court premises must be recorded.
"Both of these citizens, E. Sh. and G. Sh., remained in the court lobby until around 15:29, and then entered the courtroom (room no. 3). At 15:35, the parties stood up and, immediately after Judge AK announced the verdict, citizen E. Sh., who was in the courtroom, took out a pistol from his belt and shot several times at Judge AK, who, as a result of the injuries he received and after first aid, died during transport to the hospital," the police statement said, among other things.
Also, the investigations have revealed that citizen Gjon Shkambi did not take any action to stop his nephew's criminal actions, which creates reasonable suspicion that he was aware of the plan to execute the judge in the case, in the role of instigator and/or assistant.
After the incident, Elvis Shkambi left the courtroom and handed over the weapon to the security guard, who was assigned to supervise and oversee the proceedings in another courtroom. After leaving the courtroom, Elvis Shkambi was immediately neutralized and handcuffed by police officers.
On October 6 of a year ago, in a television show, the author's uncle, Gjon Shkambi, threatened to blow everyone up because of a property conflict.
In the Court of Appeal, where the incident occurred, today's court sessions have been suspended and the flag has been lowered to half-mast. A private ceremony will be held for the deceased judge today, while state honors will be held tomorrow at the Palace of Congresses. The castle will be escorted to its final resting place in Shkodra.
