DP MP, Kreshnik Çollaku emphasized that the 'Beleri' issue should not affect the relations between Greece and Albania.
In an interview for ABC News, commenting on the support given to Sali Berisha, the deputy said that this problem that has been created must be solved as soon as possible through dialogue.
"I believe that we are one of the countries that can be very flawed but we can give ourselves a merit in a good treatment of minorities. But on the other hand, it is a trap to limit the rights or divert the right request for the respect of the Greek minority by favoring and playing games of chauvinist circles like the Vorio Epiriste Movement and its representatives. The most recent case of Himara is a confusion of these relations and if we are all ready to support the respect of the rights of this minority in Albania, I think that there is no Albanian, whether left or right, who can to allow the accommodation of these chauvinist games and these movements that have territorial claims against 1/3 of southern Albania. Therefore the relations between the two countries left out, to isolate these chauvinist circles, which only poison relationships and complicate them. For the Beleri case, we are in such a situation, where elements of these chauvinist circles have interfered and turned into a problem between the two countries, which must be resolved as soon as possible through dialogue and open discussions with Greek friends."said the deputy.
Çollaku also emphasized that the main responsibility falls on Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, who chose Beler as their candidate for Himara, knowing the charges he has faced. He further says that Berisha did an anti-historic act by choosing him as a candidate for Himara.
"The main responsibility belongs to Mr. Berisha, who with the Reestablishment structures proposed the name of a man as a candidate of a part of the opposition, a man who did not hesitate to campaign with the flag of Vorio Epiri, the movement that has territorial claims. I look more at Mr. Berisha's responsibility and even look at it as an anti-historical behavior and a relationship with the behavior, tradition, and attitude of the DP historically. I want to draw attention to a position of the DP, which was led by Berisha, in the local elections of 2003. Mr. Mustafaj called on the democratic electorate in Himare to vote for the candidate of Fatos Nano in the SP.Collaku added.
