DP leader Sali Berisha has issued strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the conflict with the concessionaire for the Vlora Airport. The former prime minister said that Albanian taxpayers will be forced to pay 135 million euros over 10 years, 20 million euros more than the airport cost.
"For 3 years I have been denouncing what is happening with the Vlora Airport, it is costing Albanian citizens a lot. The Rama-Balluku contract with the builders foresees that the government will pay for 10 years in a row all the tickets below the predicted number. Ultra-corrupt contract, over 9 million euros are paid to the concessionaire every year.
Albanians will pay 135 million euros in 10 years, 20 million euros more than the airport cost. The concessionaire will earn 700 million euros. Taxpayers pay 135 million euros for 10 years, de facto these are divided between Lubia and the concessionaire.
"Now that the airport is nearing completion, negotiations over how the money will be divided have broken down and an internal dispute has erupted. The runway's supervising engineer has run away and fled to Britain. Serious sources have told me that the asphalt and runway are beyond all standards," he said.
