Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha confirmed today that Gazmend Bardhi will continue to be the chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group.
The new parliament, which emerged from the May 11 elections, is expected to begin work on September 10. But to make this date official, a decree signed by President Bajram Begaj will be needed.
Based on the assembly's regulations, the first meeting is opened and chaired by the oldest deputy.
According to data, the oldest MP, 81 years old, is Sali Berisha, and if he refuses, then next in line is another democrat, Tritan Shehu.
Although he is careful to say that the decision will be made by the parliamentary group, when asked at the press conference, Berisha expressed maximum appreciation for Bardhi.
Will you go with Gazment Bardhi as the group leader in September?
Berisha: The parliamentary group will determine it.
Is it possible that Bardhi will not be the leader of the parliamentary group in September?
Berisha: I am not making a statement, but I have a clearly positive assessment of the task that Bardhi has performed as group leader. We define the functions democratically, there is a rule that will be implemented. Since you are asking me, I believe that Gazment Bardhi has performed that task with dignity. It will be the group that determines it.
Will you vote for it?
Berisha: Is it possible that you will respect the secrecy of the vote? That's it.
Will you open the September 10th session?
Berisha: I can never open an illegitimate Parliament, I cannot do such a disservice to my country. If it were legitimate, I would do it with pleasure. This Parliament does not represent the will of the Albanian citizens.
