The Democratic Party candidate for Tirana, Kreshnik Çollaku, commented on the May 11 elections, stating that Sali Berisha's stance to continue counting is, in a way, an acceptance of the result.
In the TV report, Çollaku said that the reaction to the contestation could have been done before the voting day, where there were several public cases. He said that the opposition should get rid of the idea of being a crying opposition and ask the question of why, after this defeat, it is losing again.
"These are normal reactions, it is appropriate to expect, to support the process of every vote. This was Mr. Berisha's appeal. The only question I had, and to be completely honest, is whether or not the process would be accepted, because during the voting day and before the voting days, it seemed that there were extremely heated situations with denunciations, vote-buying structures and electoral crimes throughout the country. Even on election day, the events at Unit 5, and all that. I think that with this response, with this calm, the leaders of the DP have practically accepted the process. When you accept the process, it is a kind of acceptance," he said.
Journalist: What about the result?
Çollaku: Logically, while accepting the process, you also accept the result and I think that in this logic, it will also be passed to accepting the result. I join the politicians who believe that the country does not need a crying opposition. So, in those cases when we emerge from defeat and we have done nothing to understand why it happened to us, we are crying, that it stole from us, stole from us. This must end.
