The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has come out in support of the protest of law students in North Macedonia, who are demanding that the jurisprudence exam be held in the Albanian language.
Bardhi described this request as a fundamental and non-negotiable right, emphasizing the importance of the Albanian language for national identity.
He argued that the use of the Albanian language is not just a technical issue, but is directly related to the rights and dignity of Albanian citizens in the region.
At the same time, Bardhi called on the Albanian government to engage institutionally on this issue, seeking intervention from the North Macedonian authorities to avoid, according to him, a return to rights standards.
"The use of the Albanian language is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution of North Macedonia and the Law on the Use of Languages. This is a right won with blood and that cannot be negotiated."
I fully support the legitimate protest of the students because language is history, it is blood, it is memory. And a people who are forced to seek their own language do not have a language problem, they have a justice problem. For each of them, the Albanian language is identity. Albanian is not negotiable.
"I call on the Albanian Government to immediately take measures to intervene with the authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia, to avoid returning to dark times. The path of our two neighboring countries is common towards the European Union. But, in any case, the Republic of Albania has a constitutional obligation to protect the national rights of the Albanian people living outside its borders ," Bardhi said in a post on "Facebook".
