After taking the leadership of the anti-corruption commission, Fatmir Xhafaj has decided to return to the media. After being dismissed as minister and leaving the red line in the elections, Xhafaj was completely overshadowed both in the SP and in the media. For the first time after taking office, Xhafaj appeared in the media today to justify the commission's work.
"Even when the justice reform started, the vices did not listen to us. The day came when everyone was forced to swallow what they had swallowed. Even so it will happen for this thing as well. Be convinced", said Xhafaj.
Xhafaj calls the accusations that this commission will remove the independence of justice only hypotheses, without facts. " How can a parliamentary commission remove the independence of justice? Agreed! How? The foundation on which the new justice is built today is guaranteed by constitutional norms. Unfortunately, we have made such interventions in the Constitution, which for a normal constitutionalist are not reasonable. We were responsible, but we also had the vision to take this on. We did this because we gave him a guarantee. Today, more than 94 votes are needed for constitutional changes. The independence of justice institutions is enshrined in the Constitution. How can a parliamentary force that has 74 mandates change it? ", he said
The chairman of the special commission said that the idea for this initiative was born after a meeting with Prime Minister Rama in October 2023, where governance, corruption, and the rule of law were discussed. He was also very concerned about the implementation of the many measures and mechanisms that had to be built to address the recommendations from the EU progress report, the implementation of which was necessary to speed up the integration process. The partners evaluated it as a very good solution and decided to support it ," said Xhafaj on A2 CNN.
