The new parliament, which emerged from the May 11 elections, convened for the first time today. The new deputies are expected to be sworn in to constitute one of the country's most important institutions.
The hall will be attended by 140 MPs, including 72 who are entering for the first time. The session is also being attended by foreign diplomats.
The SP enters with 83 MPs, of which 53 are new names, while the DP and allies with 50 MPs, 14 of them new arrivals. The PSD enters with 3 MPs, the Opportunity party with 2 MPs, while the Together Movement and the Albania Initiative each have one MP.
Today's session is chaired by Socialist MP Vasil Llajo, after Sali Berisha and Tritan Shehu refused to take on this task as the oldest MPs.
The Assembly will be led by Niko Peleshi, whose name was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama during the SP Assembly. The head of the SP parliamentary group will be Taulant Balla, while that of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi.
In an ironic comment, Berisha said that "voting for Niko Pelesh is better than voting for his gang in Korça," because, according to him, "at least he is honest, he lives like a bandit."
The Rama 4 government will be composed of names confirmed from the previous mandate, but also new names. Among them, Belinda Balluku stands out, as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, but also new names such as Besfort Lamallari at the head of the Ministry of Justice.
