The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a press conference raised the alarm about the country's massive depopulation, describing it as the most serious blow to the country.
Berisha accused the Rama government of the greatest demographic catastrophe ever recorded in the country.
He described the situation as a process that constitutes a silent genocide against Albanians. Berisha warned that with current indicators, the country risks heading towards "inevitable extinction."
DP proposals
During his speech, Berisha said that the opposition proposes a new support package to encourage births, starting with the 2026 budget. According to Berisha, financial assistance for families should be as follows:
First child: 1 thousand euros per year
Second child: 2 thousand euros
Third child: 3 thousand euros
Fourth child and more: 5 thousand euro bonus
"All of this, calculated for 30,000 births per year, amounts to 60 million euros because we have also calculated the costs of this intervention," said Berisha.
He added that by 2026, the DP proposes that every child up to the age of 6 receive a monthly bonus of 50 euros.
