"The court is holding the DP seal hostage", Gjekmarkaj: Allies

The deputy and at the same time the vice president of the Reestablishment of the Democratic Party, Agron Gjekmarkaj, commenting on the political situation in the country and that within the opposition, said that the issue of the seal and the logo of the Democratic Party is being held hostage by the court.

In an interview for "News24", Gjekmarkaj stated that a decision should have been made a long time ago as this situation only favors the majority.

As for the opposition's several-month action, Gjekmarkaj said that it ended with the resolution of the demands of the parliamentary minority as well as with the recognition of the "real opposition" by the international allies.

He also commented on the house arrest of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, saying that he is the only politician in Europe today who is being held under arrest without charge and without punishment.

Focusing on the investigative parliamentary commissions, Gjekmarkaj emphasized that the opposition is there to make transparent the affairs that will be investigated and that from a moral point of view it will be a battle won for the opposition.

As for the Electoral Reform, the deputy said that it should reflect all the observations of the OSCE/ODIHR over the years while underlining that it is very important to create a technical government before next year's elections, which according to him will be achieved by encouraging society to exert pressure and with the understanding of the international factor.

" In the first moments, I think that the court had difficulties and a period of clarity was needed. When things became clear, I do not believe that this saga should continue indefinitely and we need not only impartiality, but love for the country so that the opposition does not remain a hostage as we have to face the government of Edi Rama. The bonuses of this pledge are kept by the majority and the government at a time when the court should have given the decision a long time ago. PD must return fully within its legal framework and answer to citizens and supporters.

I was the vice-president of the Democratic Party and I resigned to pave the way for the Democratic Party to return to the union. I did it as an act of responsibility and I accepted the position of vice president again as an act of responsibility and a chance to stand up again and face Edi Rama tooth for tooth and eye for eye.

In my view, the opposition action has been 5 months of indomitable and dignified resistance, healthy for democracy. These protests brought about the resolution of the opposition's demands. The opposition faced a few months of unusual resistance, but consistent and ready to continue to the limits, we forced the government to withdraw and the parliament to return to the tracks of the Constitution, together with the internationals. This is the good thing about this protest, the internationals recognized the real opposition and our effort to restore order in the Parliament. You only have to turn on the TV to see who the real opposition is. It is the numbers that decide and that have clearly determined who the Albanian opposition is.

Sali Berisha is today the only politician under house arrest without charge and without punishment. Everyone can ask himself how his arrest can be considered, when the Constitution protects the deputy from any court decision without the approval of the Assembly. This happened with Berisha and the Assembly certified what the court did wrong. Berisha is the chairman of the Democratic Party, we are united by diversity, where the history of the Democratic Party unites us.

The investigation commissions will make transparency, the opposition is there to make transparency about the 200 million euros of Sterilization and other shadows. If the Parliament does not vote on the report, in the end it comes out with two reports and it is a matter of the will of the majority to maintain its exponents. The battle of the opposition will be strong and from the moral point of view it will be a won battle.

As for the Electoral Reform, I would like it to reflect the remarks of the OSCE that are added after every election process that Edi Rama's majority has done these years. PD should work to introduce the technical government into the Constitution before the elections, where the trust between the parties has been massacred after the use of crime to defeat the opposition. Albania has this vital. We will not achieve it with war, but we will contribute to the society to put pressure and seek understanding from international allies to achieve a technical government, not only for these elections, but at the end of each mandate ", he said.
