The President, Bajram Begaj, has reacted regarding the situation in which the north of Kosovo is located in recent days.
In a joint conference with his Estonian counterpart, Begaj stated that the tensions in the north were unnecessary at a time when Albania and the international community were waiting for progress regarding the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Further, the president added that the tensions in the north of Kosovo came as a result of the violence of the Serbs.
"No one is satisfied with behavior that does not serve the region, at the moment when the entire Western Balkans region is in the process of integration. At the time when we were waiting for the development of negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, we had a tense situation, which was used by the Serbian citizens in the north of Kosovo. Criminals who committed violence against journalists, against citizens of Kosovo, and KFOR soldiers, bring consequences for the international community, which has brought unnecessary strain on strategic partners. This situation requires a solution that I believe will be taken into consideration by the leaders", said Begaj.
The President also commented on the Open Balkans initiative, where he stated that if this process is comprehensive, then it is welcome in the region.
"Regarding regional initiatives, every initiative is positive, necessary and important that affects the development of the region. The Open Balkans is a purely economic initiative that would bring benefits through the exchange of goods, if such an initiative will be comprehensive and bring benefits to the region, it is welcome," he declared .
