The head of the DP Group, Gazment Bardhi, reacted harshly after the decision of the Socialist Party that abstained from voting in the Assembly, preventing the transfer to the Constitutional Court of the issue of the mandate of the former Foreign Minister, Olta Xhaçka.
The democratic deputy considered it a "constitutional coup of the Assembly", stressing that the authority of the Constitutional Court was ignored.
According to Bardhi, ignoring the Constitutional Court has never happened in 34 years, making Albania no different from dictatorial regimes.
With Edi Rama's political vote in the Assembly yesterday, the Justice Reform was finally executed. The constitutional coup of the Assembly ignoring the authority of the Constitutional Court is unprecedented in 34 years, unprecedented and worthy only of dictatorial regimes, says Bardhi.
Bardhi says that yesterday the SP violated the basic principles of the rule of law.
"The personal state has nothing to do with the rule of law. A candidate country for the EU and a NATO member country has kicked the elementary principles of the rule of law in front of every Albanian and international. Since yesterday, Albania has no difference with authoritarian countries!"
Condemning yesterday's act in Parliament, Bardhi emphasizes that DP will take every necessary step to protect democracy and the rule of law.
"GPPD strongly condemns yesterday's act of the Assembly and of Edi Rama, to give the status inviolable by justice to his colleague and guarantees that he will take every necessary step to protect democracy and the rule of law", he says. .
Yesterday evening, the socialist majority voted to protect colleague Olta Xhaçka by not approving the motion of 1/10 of the deputies of the Assembly of Albania to send the request for mandate incompatibility to the Constitutional Court.
25 democratic deputies voted for, while 9 socialists against, 65 others pressed the abstention button, causing the draft decision not to receive the necessary votes for approval.
Elisa Spiropali tried to justify the action of the majority saying that the Assembly has followed the entire constitutional procedure and in the face of this situation, she said that she will turn to the Venice Commission to get a legal opinion, an action that the socialists had warned months ago.
With this vote, the Assembly, for the second time in a row, refused to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court, which had twice issued a decision underlining that the parliament is obliged to approve the motion of 1/10 of the deputies.
According to the vote, the socialists who voted against are Damian Gjiknuri, Bledar Çuçi, Jyrgis Çyrbja, Anduel Tahiraj, Paulin Sterkaj, Petro Koçi, Shkelqim Bullari, Bujar Çela and Klodiana Spahiu.
Olta Xhaçka herself was in the hall during the voting, but did not participate in it.
