What is the weight of the military powers of the Balkans according to the magazine 'Global Firepower'?
Donald Trump's victory in the primary elections of the Republican Party in the state of Iowa has been enthusiastically welcomed in the Serbian media.
B92 television has received the opinion of several analysts, who favor a victory for the Republican who ran the White House from 2016-2020.
Milan Krstiq, assistant professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, said that Serbia hopes very much for the victory of Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections in the USA.
"I think that Serbia hopes a lot in Donald Trump's victory, given his flexibility regarding some issues that are important to us. The key argument is Washington's mediation, where Richard Grenell stood out as a mediator," he told Tanjug.
He recalls that in that dialogue the focus was on economic normalization and that it suited Belgrade. Krstić also recalled that while Bolton was national security adviser, it was thought that exchanging territories or changing borders could be an option that would be supported by America.
On Monday, Donald Trump achieved a significant victory in the internal party elections in the US state of Iowa, when he triumphed over the other candidates of the Republican Party in the race for the presidential election.
Krstiq said the result in Iowa was no surprise.
"It didn't surprise me personally, I don't think it surprised most analysts either, given Trump's significant lead in public opinion polls and in general, in the overall context of the Republican Party elections. He is the man who was president. The absolute majority he won in Iowa is indicative of his absolute leadership in the party," said Krstiq.
The assistant professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, Marko Dashic, speaking for Tanjug, said that Iowa is essentially the place where the election race for the Democratic Party will begin, although on paper it is New Hampshire.
"Department of the Democratic Party also started the decline yesterday, but it will drag until March 5, when it is 'Super Tuesday' and then the voting results will be announced. However, Biden has no opponent to take advantage of this moment perhaps slightly unfavorable for that, so I expect results in line with the public opinion poll", Dashiq said.
The candidates for president will be known only after the party conventions, which the Republicans set for July, while the Democrats for August.
When it comes to potential "third" candidates in the presidential election and their chances of joining the race of the two expected front-runners, Dashic said these are candidates whose popularity is low.
"There is an interpretation that when there is general dissatisfaction with prominent candidates, the third candidate can take advantage of that situation, but more to reduce the result of the ruling party, ie. the democratic president in this case.
There are some "third" candidates, but public opinion research reduces them to a single-digit percentage of popularity," Dashic said.
Serbia's hope for Trump's victory is his thesis for a weakening of NATO, a thesis that is of great benefit to Serbia, which in recent years has increased defense spending.
