The Socialist Party has signaled that it may support restrictive measures against the use of social networks by children, as part of discussions on the protection of minors in the digital space.
During a session in the Albanian Parliament, the leader of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, while speaking about the gender equality law, also touched on the issue of child protection. He stated that he would be willing to vote for a decision to ban the use of social networks for children under the age of 16, describing this as a practice that is being followed by other European countries and beyond.
According to Balla, any such step should come after a broad public consultation and be based on institutional responsibility for protecting children from the dangers of uncontrolled use of social media.
" I would very happily vote for a decision to ban social networks for children under 16, a practice that is being followed by responsible countries such as France, Spain and Australia ," Balla said.
The discussion comes at a time when several countries have initiated or are considering concrete measures in this direction. Spain has announced plans to ban social media for people under 16, while France recently approved a bill banning their use by minors under 15. Portugal is also preparing a similar initiative.
In the region, Greece is also considering restrictions on the use of social networks by children under 15, while Greek authorities have stressed the need for coordinated action to protect children in the digital age.
