The voting process for the referendum to confirm Sali Berisha as leader of the Democratic Party began at 08:00 this morning. But the element that continues to be kept secret by the DP leadership is the number of members of this party.
It seems that after Berisha refused to talk about the number of members, avoiding even direct questions, the same scheme is being used by the MPs and officials of this party.
Enno Bozdo, a DP MP, was asked by journalists about the number of members, but left without giving a figure.
"I invite the Democrats to come out with a free vote and show their will," said Bozdo, adding "the number of members is known." But there are suspicions that even the DP deputy does not know the number of members, as he has not been involved with the working group engaged in the organization and progress of the process.
He also reiterated the official position of the DP that candidates who do not meet the criteria cannot be included in the race. "It is better to have a politically valid process than a race with candidates who are there simply to fill the number; this would be just a farce. This is the best way; secret voting is taking place normally in every branch," said Bozdo.
