Following the incident the day before in the Zvërnec area, where residents clashed with private guards of a company that is expected to develop an investment in the area, state leaders have also reacted.
Prime Minister Edi Rama initially reacted by emphasizing that the project in question is related to a completely private property and that there has been no grant or forgiveness of land by the Albanian state. He underlined that the property was returned to the owners and registered as a mortgage years before the current government came to power.
Rama sharply criticized the behavior of the private security guards involved in the conflict, calling the use of force against citizens unacceptable. He also stressed that any deviation from legal and ethical standards must be treated with appropriate responsibility. The Prime Minister hinted that he would speak more extensively about the project and the “truths and untruths” about it in a public appearance that has been announced.
"Tomorrow it is my turn to speak about an extraordinary project for Albania, which has been in the works for several years now and which has nothing to do with some big untruths that have been circulating in recent days. In the meantime, I congratulate the leadership of the State Police for the quick and accurate reaction, both to that brainless bunch of muscles with the status of private security guards, and to the local leaders of the Vlora police. The new approach of zero tolerance towards any blue uniform that violates the public's trust is the right one. *For the project itself and the truths and untruths about it, more tomorrow at 10:00. Live for all those interested, of course," Rama writes.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari, also reacted by demanding criminal prosecution of those responsible for the violence and by targeting the security company, which he described as incompetent in carrying out its activity, demanding that it be closed down as soon as possible. He also criticized the attitude of the Vlora Police during the event, considering its indifference unjustifiable.
Lamallari meanwhile welcomed the reaction of the State Police to suspend local leaders and launch investigations into the chain of command, emphasizing that any deviation from police duties will be dealt with without tolerance and that citizens' trust in the blue uniforms must be protected at all times.
