The Democratic Party participated in the roundtable of the Forum for Political Dialogue to promote coordination among opposition forces and to demand early free elections. Member of the National Council, Ilir Alimehmeti, explained that the opposition aims to move from internal clashes towards a common political approach.
Alimehmeti stated that for a long period there has been a lack of constructive dialogue between political parties. According to him, this situation has created tensions within the opposition camp and has hindered the coordination of positions.
He emphasized that participation in the roundtable aims to establish direct communication on issues related to justice, electoral processes and democratic standards. At this meeting, the Democratic Party was represented by himself and Luciano Boçi.
The DP representative raised accusations about the May 11 election process. He argued that the OSCE-ODIHR report highlights problems in the elections and that the majority has obtained mandates in an irregular manner. According to him, 83 mandates do not represent a regular election result. Alimehmeti linked the political situation to other issues that, according to him, have affected relations with the European Union, including IPARD funds, the SASPAK case and issues related to the AKSHI.
He emphasized that the opposition is aiming for unification through dialogue tables, which also include parties outside Parliament. According to him, the largest opposition force should support the smaller entities in their efforts to build a common position.
Alimehmeti emphasized electoral reform and the revision of the Electoral Code as necessary steps to guarantee free and fair elections. He considered participation in the roundtable as part of this political process.
Alimehmeti: We welcome a dialogue between the parties that is necessary. Because we come from a long period of time where the dialogue has not been constructive. So now we come from a political dialogue to a constructive one. We support the roundtable forum for political dialogue, on many issues. From supporting justice, to free elections. And how is this achieved? With continuous confrontation and not just with speeches. I and Luciano Boçi have been at the roundtable as representatives of the DP.
What free elections did Edi Rama hold, what program did he have? The OSCE-ODIHR report also says so. Neither pensions were increased nor was a European passport given, since the case of IPARD funds, or Ilir Beqja's SASPAK funds, all of these disappeared, the EU took them away. The latest AKSHI, so the EU has taken these away and is dealing with others. There are not 83 mandates won, but stolen.
