Democratic MP Klevis Balliu has spoken out after being injured during a protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office on Friday. Balliu said he was hit several times with a rubber baton and spray paint.
He said that the government wanted to 'kill' the protest, afraid of its massive impact.
"The intervention that was made in the protests has some things that are expected. I, who have been dealing with protests since 2019, know the police officers well. We are the ones who take care of the police. We have always been careful, and the police have been too. In this specific case, there was a plan to violate the protest and the protesters, because the protest became a problem due to the media impact it had. It is a problem for the current government. Their hope was that this would kill the protest, they are very wrong.
The people who used violence for this are effective and are people with problems, they are also involved in structured criminal groups. The government has a major problem, it feels that it is being hit, not only in Albania. Now it is also a problem in the international arena. Recently, the laundering of drug money in the construction sector. They hit me several times with a rubber baton at the Prime Minister's Office. Then there was the hit again with Aulon Kalana and Luçiano Boçi.
"Later it was at the bridge, we had an argument with the police because they were dragging a protester. Then the hard blow was at the Parliament. It was another spray. It was heavier, worse, 'new entry'. It caused problems with breathing, it caused shock, there were also elderly people there ," Balliu said in 'Top Story'.
