The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, delivered his speech today in the Parliament, at the solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
He described February 17 as a date that has been added to the national calendar, considering it an important achievement in the representation of Albanians in the Balkans and Europe.
"Today's date was added to our national calendar. On February 17, another high level was reached in our representation in the Balkans and Europe," Kurti said.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo emphasized that this day is a moment of reflection and honor for all those who sacrificed for the country's freedom.
"Today is a day of remembrance for all the women, men and children who sacrificed everything. They yearned for freedom. The Republic is first and foremost an institution of freedom. When it comes to sovereignty, we cannot let go," he said.
In his speech, Kurti mentioned the peaceful resistance of the 1990s and the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, emphasizing that institutions bow respectfully to the martyrs and strive to exalt the Republic in their name.
Kurti also touched on the trials in The Hague against former KLA leaders, expressing his position regarding the charges.
"We are concerned that the leaders of the KLA are being unjustly accused of taking up arms for freedom. The accusations in The Hague for crimes against humanity do not stand. Crimes against humanity were committed by Milosevic's Serbia. Equating the leaders of the KLA with a genocidal regime is unacceptable ," Kurti declared.
