President Bajram Begaj has congratulated Kosovo on the 24th anniversary of liberation.
Through a post on social networks, Begaj expressed gratitude for the heroes of the Kosovo Liberation Army and strategic partners, such as the USA and NATO.
"Happy Liberation Day Kosovo! Tribute to the heroes of the Kosovo Liberation Army! Thanks to our strategic partners USA and NATO!", writes Begaj on Facebook.
24 years ago, 50,000 NATO soldiers were deployed in Kosovo, and with them the temporary administration of the United Nations.
Kosovo today marks the 24th anniversary of the Day of Freedom or Liberation of Kosovo, when NATO peacekeeping troops entered the country after the air campaign of the North Atlantic Alliance against Serbian military and police targets in Kosovo and Serbia.
The bombing campaign, which lasted 78 days, ended on June 10, 1999, after the adoption of Resolution 1244 of the Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UN), with the capitulation of Serbia and the withdrawal of its forces from Kosovo.
In the 1998-99 war, more than 13,000 people were killed and more than 6,000 people are still unaccounted for.
