Austrian MEP Thomas Waitz called the positions of the EU envoy, Miroslav Lajcak, regarding the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue as one-sided and in favor of Serbia.
According to the MEP, many requests are being made to Kosovo, while no requests are being made to Serbia, but according to him, time will tell which side is inciting the tensions.
"Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the Serbs will participate in the elections. When I confronted Mr. Lajcak with his one-sided speech, it was the moment when he was sharing some conditions for the Serbian side, but unfortunately he did not raise his voice so much for the Serbian side and their problems.
If the government of Kosovo shows that it has the will to at least try. The government of Kosovo is getting closer to the principles of democracy that the EU has and if the Serbian List is boycotting the elections again, I think that the whole EU will know who is undermining democracy," he said .
Asked why he considers the European Union envoy for the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue one-sided, the MEP said that it is enough to see his history as a politician to understand his orientation.
" Unfortunately, you can also see it in his history as a politician, he was the ambassador of Slovakia in Serbia, he was the foreign minister in the year when Kosovo's independence was declared. Slovakia is a country that has not recognized Kosovo and it is not a good precondition for it to be impartial in these negotiations. Even he was foreign minister and did not speak good words about the recognition of Kosovo, he has very good relations with Serbia. We can see that his participation did not have a result in reducing tensions ", he told Euronews Albania.
