Tensions return in the North of Kosovo. A police patrol was attacked with firearms a few minutes ago.
The Kosovo Police informs that during the performance of police duties and activities, some officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit of the Border Police, today around 06:15, in the village of Bube in Zubin Potok, have noticed suspicious movements of some vehicles.
According to a press release, in an attempt to stop and control the suspected vehicles, the police encountered armed resistance from the persons in question. " In such a situation, in order to protect themselves and bring the situation under control, the police officers responded to the attack with weapons and managed to arrest one of the suspects: DI, (year of birth 1981, male Kosovar Serb by Mr. Potoku). During the exchange of fire, the police officers and the detainee did not suffer any injuries ", the announcement states.
During the control of the truck, according to the media release, 40 sheep were found loaded, without documentation, which are suspected to have been smuggled from Serbia to the Republic of Kosovo.
Also, two abandoned vehicles were found there, it is suspected that they were escorting the truck . Relevant police units, including the IPK, came to the scene and the prosecutor was informed about the case. A case has been initiated against the suspect for two criminal offences: 'attack on an official person' and 'smuggling of goods' ", the announcement states.
This is the first event that happened after the attack in Bnajska. Serbian mercenaries attacked the Kosovo police killing an officer, an event that alarmed NATO, the EU and the entire region. It seems the Serbs continue to cause tensions.
