A strong decision by British authorities has banned American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, from traveling to the United Kingdom. The refusal comes shortly after he was announced as one of the headline acts at the Wireless Festival, one of London's biggest summer music events.
According to the Home Office, Kanye had applied for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), but his application was refused on the grounds that his presence is not in the public interest.
The decision is related to the rapper's statements in recent years, which have caused fierce controversy for anti-Semitic, racist and even pro-Nazi content. These comments have prompted numerous reactions from the public and international organizations, making his presence in Britain considered problematic.
Kanye himself reacted during the day, expressing his willingness for dialogue and offering to meet with members of the Jewish community in Britain to hear their concerns. The Board of Deputies of British Jews confirmed its readiness for a meeting, but on the condition that the rapper withdraw from his planned performances at the Wireless Festival.
