Federal prosecutors in the United States have asked that Sean "Diddy" Combs be sentenced to 11 years in prison and a $500,000 fine for prostitution-related charges.
The request was filed on Tuesday, while the final decision is expected to be handed down on Friday in Manhattan Federal Court by Judge Arun Subramanian.
Diddy, 55, was found guilty by a jury on July 2 of transporting men across state lines to engage in drug-fueled sex acts. At these parties, he allegedly watched and filmed the events.
However, he was found not guilty of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and blackmail – charges that could have brought him a life sentence.
His lawyers have asked for a much lighter sentence of just 14 months, arguing that there is no evidence of coercion from the women who testified against him. They insist that evidence of violence against former partners should not be taken into account, as Diddy was acquitted of those charges.
If the court accepts the defense's arguments, Combs could be released before the end of the year, given that he has already served one year in custody at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Center.
Before the scandal, Sean “Diddy” Combs was known for his successful career in the music industry, as the founder of Bad Boy Records and as one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. But Friday’s decision is expected to determine not only his personal future, but also the legacy of one of the most recognizable names in American music.
