On December 29, 2013, the lives of Michael Shumaker and his family changed forever. A few days before the tenth anniversary of the accident in Méribel, "Corriere della Sera" makes an overview of the conditions of the legend of F1 and Ferrari.

As always, great secrecy reigns regarding his state of health, Giorgio Terruzzi underlines: what we know for sure is that Shumi breathes independently, that physiotherapists work to make him maintain sufficient muscle tone, but even that he is motionless and does not speak.

The family is always by his side: Mik, Gina Maria and his wife Korinna talk to him, but without knowing to what extent they can be heard. In fact, doctors themselves do not know enough about its deep brain mechanisms.

In recent weeks, Schumaker has been in the news again following a journalistic investigation by ARD, Germany's main public radio and television broadcaster, which focused on two key aspects of the accident: the carelessness of the German champion, who went off the piste on his skis in insufficient snow conditions and the misjudgment of his conditions by the rescue teams, who would have rerouted during the helicopter transport, losing precious minutes.

All knowledge that takes its time and cannot change the reality of the last 10 years. In this period of time, as Korsera explains, Korinna sold excess family assets, such as the plane, villas in the French Alps and in Norway, investing everything in the residence in Gland, Switzerland, where the company and private clinic was set up, which still helps her day and night.

Along with that of his family, there has never been a lack of support from his historical assistant, Sabin Kehm, and from old friends such as Jean Todt, one of the few who is allowed to visit him and who occasionally gives the media some small data about Sum's condition.

Next Friday's tragic anniversary will be followed by a decidedly happier, if melancholy, anniversary: on January 3, in fact, the 7-time F1 world champion will turn 55. He will do so surrounded by the love of his loved ones, as always.
