
Japan is the first national team to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, apart from the organizers.
The 2-0 victory over Bahrain secured Japan's ticket to the World Cup. Goals from Kamada in the 66th minute and Kubo in the 87th minute secured three important points for the national team led by Moriyasu.
After seven rounds, Japan holds first place in Group C, with 19 points, a full 9 points more than second-place Australia and third-place Saudi Arabia.
There are 8 countries from Asia that will participate in the 2026 World Cup. Thus, Japan has become the first to join the organizing countries, Canada, Mexico and America.
This will be the first time the tournament will host 48 teams, unlike previous events where 32 teams participated.
