Armando Broja has been ranked by the prestigious British newspaper “The Athletic” as the second worst transfer of the season in the Premier League. The assessment comes after a detailed analysis of 189 players approached by elite English football clubs during the transfer window.
Journalist Tim Spiers has reviewed all the transfers of the season, compiling a ranking of the most successful and the most disappointing approaches. In his analysis, he is critical of the performances of the Albanian national team striker, even suggesting that clubs such as Coventry, Ipswich or Hull City should not consider Broja as an alternative for the offensive department.
According to the published report, Broj's transfer from Chelsea to Burnley, for a fee reportedly reaching 20 million pounds with bonuses, has not met expectations. The striker signed a five-year contract with the English club, but his statistics have raised major questions.
" It's hard to argue that Broja is the striker who can help Burnley secure Premier League survival when, in the last three seasons, between Chelsea and loan spells at Everton and Fulham, he has scored just three goals in 58 appearances ," Spiers wrote in his analysis.
In conclusion, the journalist points out that, considering the transfer value, Broja could have been ranked even higher on the list of failed transfers. He notes that the striker's tally has gone from three goals in 58 matches to just four goals in 84 appearances.
Meanwhile, the top spot on the list of the worst transfers has been attributed to Harvey Elliott, who was loaned from Liverpool to Aston Villa without failing to make the expected impact.
On the other side of the table, Granit Xhaka was named the most successful signing of the season. The Albanian-born midfielder, who moved to Sunderland, not only became the team's captain, but also led the team to qualification for the Europa League.
