Formula 1 has confirmed the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the FIA World Championship starting from the 2027 season. According to the official announcement, the "Istanbul Park" track will be part of the calendar until 2031, following a new agreement with the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The organization of the races will be done in collaboration with the Turkish Motorsports Federation (TOSFED), which will serve as Formula 1's local partner for future events.
The Turkish Grand Prix was last held in 2020 and 2021, when it was temporarily returned to the calendar. In 2020, Lewis Hamilton secured his seventh world title at this track, equaling Michael Schumacher's historic record.
"Istanbul Park", first introduced to the calendar in 2005, is considered one of the most technical tracks in Formula 1. With a length of 5.33 kilometers and pronounced changes in elevation, it presents significant challenges for drivers and cars.
One of the most popular segments is the figure 8, a complex turn with many corners, requiring maximum precision and control to maintain speed and balance.
The last winner at this track is Valtteri Bottas, who triumphed in 2021 with Mercedes. He and Lewis Hamilton are the only two active drivers to have won in Turkey.
The record for most wins at “Istanbul Park” is held by Felipe Massa, with three consecutive successes from 2006 to 2008 with Ferrari. Well-known names such as Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button have also won at this track.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described Formula 1 as one of the most important sporting events in the world, highlighting its impact on technology and appeal to new audiences.
According to him, the sport enjoys widespread interest in Turkey, especially among young people. He stated that the competitions reach about 19 million followers in the country, while about 7.5 million actively follow them on social media.
" Formula 1 ranks among the most important sporting events in the world, distinguished for its spectacle, its young fan base and its leadership in automotive technologies.
"Even in our country, Formula 1 enjoys a wide following across all age groups, especially among our youth, with a truly passionate fan base. The races reach nearly 19 million people in our country, while around 7.5 million follow them closely on social media ," he said.
