The prestigious "Ballon d'Or" ceremony will take place this year for the first time in London, as part of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the most important individual award in world football.

This year's edition is scheduled to be held on October 26 in the English capital, breaking the tradition of hosting it in Paris. The organizers' decision comes as a tribute to Stanley Matthews, the legendary English footballer who won the first ever Ballon d'Or in 1956.

According to the organizers, the choice of London is closely linked to the historical symbolism of Matthews, considered one of the greatest figures in world football. The former Stoke City and Blackpool player played more than 800 games during his career and triumphed in the FA Cup with Blackpool in 1953.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony has changed locations several times over the years. During the period of cooperation between FIFA and the organizers of the award, the event was also held in Zurich, while in recent years it has returned to Paris. In one edition, the ceremony was organized near the Eiffel Tower.

The organizers have left open the possibility that the ceremony will take place outside of France in the future, reflecting the increasingly international character of the award.

Currently, the reigning winner of the men's Ballon d'Or is Osmane Dembele, while the women's trophy is held by Aitana Bonmati.

England captain Harry Kane is among the favourites to win the award this year after a brilliant season with goals. The list of top candidates also includes names such as Lamin Jamal, Declan Rice and Michael Oliseh.
